A call out to Heidi Dennis, from John Paul College, Daisy Hills, QLD, who became the first member of the Australian Schoolgirls Sevens Program to represent Australia at the senior level in the Australian Sevens team last month in Perth.
Heidi played with Queensland in the 2022 Australian Championship at Knox Grammar School, where she was selected for the inaugural Open/U18 Merit Team. The team had a specialised training session with RA’s Australian Sevens team, which proved invaluable to the girls. 18 months later, she is wearing the Green and Gold at the highest level.
This also illustrates how a pathway has now been created between the ASRU and Rugby Australia for talented schoolgirls throughout the country who have a dream of one day representing Australia in Sevens or XVs at the senior level, and even representing our country at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028 or Brisbane 2023.
Let’s wish Heidi the best of luck to hopefully join the team at the Paris Olympic Games in July.
