Basil ‘Jika’ Travers
Basil Jika Travers was the first President of the ASRU-and was also Headmaster of Shore School in Sydney (1959-1984).
Jika represented England in international rugby when he was studying at Oxford University.
He gave very significant support to the ASRU from the beginning and hosted many events at his school. He set a very clear pattern of events, functions and standards which stood the ASRU in good stead.
Jika was a man of clear opinions and strong will—these characteristics were a vital part of the successful establishment of the ASRU.
His capacity to work across the several school systems and states was essential to this.
